"Low Outgassing and Ionic Content, High-Performance Light and Moisture Dual-Curable Conformal Coating"

Light-curable conformal coatings are popular due to their process benefits over conventional technologies, such as the ability to use a non-solvated 100% solids material, higher throughput, space savings, and lower operating costs. The use of light-curing coatings in aerospace and defense applications has been limited due to stringent low ionic content and low outgassing requirements. A recently developed technology has now enabled formulation of a coating that meets these requirements, while also integrating a dual-cure feature to eliminate concerns about shadow areas.

In this paper, ionic content, outgassing, and reliability testing (heat and humidity, sequential thermal shock and cycling, and salt spray corrosion resistance) will be discussed. These results are compared against “out-of-kind” conventional conformal coatings used in the aerospace and defense industry and an “in-kind” light- and moisture-curable conformal coating.
